My life hasn’t gotten easier, maybe harder, but at least I don’t think it’s my fault for being “lazy” or not “self driven”.

Until we get the diagnosis, we’ve spent our lives being told we just need to try harder or do better… and we do that like our life depends on it. Then the diagnosis comes and we can grieve everything we lost along the way, and with that grief comes an unwillingness to believe that we can fix ourselves if we just put in the effort ❤️

I used to be able to deal with my anxiety so much better before I knew it was anxiety. So this makes perfect sense

just the grief alone from realizing that you didn't need to have struggled so much can be exhausting

this is so true - since my burnout I realized that the life I’ve lived before is gone for good

Nope, I learned about masking - that I was doing it, it was exhausting me... so I learned to say no, to stop explaining why I behave the way I do & magically I feel better - knowing WHY - I'm autistic 🤗 F*K em if they can't take a joke...or a lil quirkiness 🙃😜 humans behave & react differently, were just all pretending to be the same. I think that's why everyone is so darn unhappy - we're all pretending.

Do you have any advice for an AUDHD adult diagnosed person who was in a toxic relationship with a narcissist for over 20 years how do you recover from the abuse and the PTSD caused by that abuse?

I find now I just to keep trying. I sit in social settings completely detached. I have no words. So overstimulated that I don’t even have the energy to steer the conversation to control the outcomes.

Part of me wants to get tested but idk. I feel like I’ll be judged by people for wanting to be assessed or they’ll tell me I don’t need to be.

I got diagnosed with ADHD in my early 40s as I was injured in work and wanted to go to college for a proper education and since then I figured out I have autism aswell. I've become very withdrawn lately and don't socialise at all not that I did much anyway. I ended a 20 year relationship due to being fed up of being treated like shit. I absolutely can't be bothered masking anymore.

i got diagnosed at 15/16 but was in denial and didn’t believe it until 10 years later and i was like oh i actually am and it was so weird finally accepting it and everything does genuinely change

i was thinking about this earlier today, and a quote for Futurama came to mind, "you changed the outcome by measuring it!" 😂

My burnout was so bad my beard fell out. I was deep in it before learning what autism is 4 years ago. Had made my world so small to try to hold on. Still in rough shape, financial stress keeping the storm going. But it's better to know.

yes this, going onto my 4th week of finally realising & wow how much I made sure everyone was OK is ridiculous, I never put my needs 1st. I've changed dramatically but not really as this has always been me but I've put a performance on that good, I didn't even know I was doing it! I struggle getting that new input I need, but my 1st neuro Group today was what I have been craving, I slept 4 hours after but it was amazing finally finding my people 😊

I’ve identified with many autistic traits, but my psychologist said while he does not diagnose autism he said that the fact that I learned how to make eye contact and can do it with little thought now, that it basically answered itself that I can’t be autistic because of my ability to learn eye contact he said it should be nearly impossible. Is this accurate? Is there something that I could be that’s similar to autism? I’ve been diagnosed ADHD but I just felt like within the context of autism a lot of moments made sense to me but maybe I’m just reading into things? SOS
