The flint is actually a Ferro Rod and it does come out as well the Steel you where using is the knife sharpener

Leatherman makes great gear but the weight isnt worth the carry on most backpacking trips. I really dont need more than a pen knife and a bic lighter for most over nights... im still going to buy one tho! Leatherman makes the best knives for a zombie apocalypse

Read the directions that’s the knife sharpener, and they recommend using the back of the saw as your steel!

I have one of them and I highly recommend. But that detachable "striker" is actually a sharpener. You're supposed to strike the steel with the back of the saw blade

Fire starter is removeable, and has a whistle on one end. The steel doubles as a sharpener for the blade as well

I have a signal. Great design, great tools. My only gripe is that the screw slowly comes loose as you open and close the blade. Super easy fix, it’s more of an annoyance than an inconvenience

your using the knife sharpener as the striker...the back side of the saw is what is supposed to be used as a striker on the Ferrell Rod and the Ferrell Rod is removeable...it is not "embedded"
