🥖Birotes Salados, Part 4: Baking I’m already knowing this is gonna scare some people away 😫 This part of the recipe is where I kept failing in the last 3 years. I just couldn’t get my birotes to open up, and it’s mostly because I have a gas oven! If you have a gas oven and follow these steps, I promise you can make beautiful birotes. If you have an electric oven, chances are you’ll have a much easier time with this. I haven’t tested it myself, but you can probably skip the initial burst of steam step, and don’t need to block vents. The reason I have to do all this with a gas oven is because THEY DO NOT HOLD STEAM! Steam is SO important to develop a nice crunchy crust. The “oven off” method is also important because it allows the bread to rise to its full potential with RESIDUAL heat, which prevents the crust from hardening too quickly, thus preventing maximum oven spring. The full written recipe is already on my blog as always! CHILDHOOD AVOCADO & EGG SALAD!🥑 This salad is a whole meal in a bowl! I used to eat it as a child, and it’s really one of my favorites - on toast or just to nosh with chips. The simple things are always the best! Follow @ruhamasfood for more🤍 RECIPE BELOW Recipe: Ingredients: 3 cucumbers, thinly sliced 1 small red onion, thinly sliced 1/2 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and thinly sliced 2 ripe avocados, cubed A handful of fresh mint leaves, roughly chopped 3 hard-boiled eggs 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 teaspoon sumac 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil Juice of 1 lemon Garnish: Chopped fresh mint Method: 1. In a nice salad bowl, add the sliced cucumbers, red onion, jalapeño, avocado, and mint leaves. 2. Shred the hard-boiled eggs on top. 3.
