@itravelwithallan: Murchison Falls, originally documented and named in 1863 by British explorer Sir Samuel Baker in honour of Sir Roderick Murchison, the president of the Royal Geographical Society, underwent a radical political renaming in the 1970s when Ugandan President Idi Amin officially changed the title to Kabalega Falls to honor Omukama (King) Kabalega of Bunyoro for his fierce historic resistance against British colonial forces. However, this nationalist designation was short-lived, as the falls officially reverted to their original colonial name, Murchison Falls, in 1979 immediately following the collapse of Amin's regime, though the title Kabalega remains widely embraced and used by local communities to this day. #creatorsearchinsights
