Maybe our attention spans are only “short” because of the boring mindless slop that people try to push on us. Personally, I don’t see why a good book wouldn’t be worth our attention

We read that stuff because it’s all that’s available. Please put out more modern books with deep plots. I love books that make me think but unfortunately most of them come from the 1970s or before and the language was a bit harder to understand (I do figure it out eventually but it usually requires many rereads). We yearn for difficult books.

i was just talking to my sister yesterday about how all the books on the market these days are all the fucking same mindless shit because of the way society is flattened by AI and “data informed” algorithm and models and shit focusing on literally just the money and copying the same goddamn formula instead of trying anything new or creative. and i know a literary agent said this to you but best believe they’re informed by other shit like the data they get about what sells, what ppl like, etc…

Elder Millennial here! Sounds like that agent is trying to get you to follow their formula for an easy buck by turning your hook into some sort of fast fashion or fast food book. Please don't. No one will remember your book that way. It'll sell at first, probably, but it won't stand the test of time.
