A mental health expert I worked with in a postpartum psychosis case said to me "untreated postpartum psychosis will always end in death of someone" and that hit hard! The voices and visions they experience are so real to them. But often intensive treatment is absolutely necessary for full recovery. In the UK women are ideally not separated from their babies when experiencing this - even where mother & baby unit placement is appropriate - because separating mum & baby can make it so much worse

Too much premeditation occurred in this case for me to believe that she wasn’t completely sane!

I think there is a difference between intrusive thoughts and telling your partner clearly that you have thoughts of harming others. I’m AuDHD and I have intrusive thoughts that are clearly noticeable. But I think what people are saying is she clearly told her husband more than once she had clear thoughts of harming them and he still left them alone with her. It’s the lack of safety planning, having a support network around her that people I think are commenting on.

👏 it’s just such a lack of education around different mental health issues. Intrusive thoughts are EGODYSTONIC - you hate the thoughts, they are against your values, that’s why they are so horrific and relentless
