One thing about me is I’m a crybaby… but I’m still gonna get it done 😭🧴 Day 4/100 of my nighttime skincare routine for hormonal acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and discoloration around my mouth and neck. Today’s skincare was less about doing the “perfect” routine and more about persistence. I was tired, emotional, overstimulated, and fully did not want to do this… but the most important person in your life is still you. So even when you don’t feel like it, you have to pour back into yourself a little bit. Even if that just means washing your face, moisturizing, and going to bed 🤍 I have ADHD, so consistency is hard for me. I’ll start routines, get overwhelmed, miss a day, and then fall off completely. That’s why I’m using TikTok as my accountability partner for this 100-day skincare challenge. Follow along for my real acne progress, tretinoin journey, skin barrier repair days, and hyperpigmentation updates ✨ Tonight my skin was feeling tight, sore, irritated, red, and bumpy around my eyes and upper cheeks, so I skipped my actives completely. No tretinoin, no azelaic acid, no hydroquinone. I just used my cleansing oil, Vanicream moisturizer, Vaseline around my eyes and mouth, and a thin layer of 40% zinc oxide diaper rash cream to calm everything down. The good news: my skin still looks more even than Day 1, my overall tone looks brighter, some of the cystic acne on my cheeks seems to be drying up, and the sebaceous filaments are slowly working their way out. The not-so-fun part: I think I’m in the “retinoid uglies” stage where my skin looks more textured, inflamed, and irritated before it gets better. But I’m trying not to panic because slow progress is still progress, and skin barrier repair is part of the skincare journey too 🫶🏽 Skincare Products: Prescription Topicals from @amazononemedical 0.025% tretinoin for acne — used at night before bed 15% azelaic acid for acne, acne scarring, and hyperpigmentation — used twice daily 4% hydroquinone with kojic acid/other brightening ingredients for discoloration around my mouth and neck caused by acanthosis nigricans — used twice daily Non-Prescription Skincare Products: Kara Beauty Radiant Cleansing Oil CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Wash with 10% benzoyl peroxide Vanicream fragrance-free lotion Vaseline petroleum jelly Pinxav 40% zinc oxide “diaper rash” cream La Roche-Posay SPF 60 sunscreen Blue Lizard Sensitive SPF 50 sunscreen Normal Routine: Morning — cleanse skin and allow to dry, apply azelaic acid to face and neck and allow to dry, apply hydroquinone around mouth and on neck and allow to dry, apply moisturizer and allow to dry, apply sunscreen, then continue with makeup as normal. Nighttime — cleanse skin and allow to dry, apply tretinoin to face and neck and allow to dry, apply hydroquinone around mouth and on neck and allow to dry, then apply moisturizer. Barrier Repair Routine: If my skin is sensitive, I mix either the azelaic acid or tretinoin with moisturizer to dilute it. Then I apply my hydroquinone as usual. If my skin barrier feels broken, irritated, or damaged, I skip actives for the night. I cleanse, apply moisturizer, use Vaseline on sensitive areas, and apply a thin layer of zinc oxide cream to calm my skin. The next day, I continue by diluting the actives with moisturizer. #hormonalacne #hyperpigmentation #skincareroutine #adhdinwomen #SkincareProgress
