Deftones at WXRK 92.3 Dysfunctional Family Picnic 2000 PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ, June 23, 2000 The WXRK 92.3 Dysfunctional Family Picnic was an annual alternative rock concert presented by New York City radio station K-Rock (92.3 WXRK). The 2000 edition, DFP 4.0, was held June 23 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, the festival’s fourth year running. The lineup included Creed, Ozzy Osbourne, Stone Temple Pilots, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, Sevendust, and Deftones, who arrived as one of the most anticipated acts on the bill. The timing was remarkable: Deftones’ landmark third album White Pony had dropped just three days earlier on June 20, the same day the band appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. They came into Holmdel mid-stride on a packed East Coast run, having played Washington D.C. the night before and Worcester, MA the day after. A full-show VHS from the Bryan Wellington collection documents the set. The band opened with Angelo Badalamenti’s Laura Palmer’s Theme (Twin Peaks) as intro music before tearing into the following setlist: “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away),” “My Own Summer (Shove It),” a cover of Depeche Mode’s “To Have and to Hold,” “Change (In the House of Flies),” “Feiticeira,” “Bored,” “Around the Fur,” “Digital Bath,” “7 Words,” and “Headup.” Despite White Pony being only days old, the set featured several tracks from it including “Change (In the House of Flies),” “Feiticeira,” and “Digital Bath.” “Change” would go on to become one of the band’s most iconic songs. The Depeche Mode cover was a recurring feature of the 2000 tour. The White Pony tour continued through the summer with Glassjaw supporting on many dates. #Deftones #WhitePony #DysfunctionalFamilyPicnic #KRock #LiveMusic
