but there are laws to prevent knives being used to hurt people, and if you break those laws there are legal consequences. AI is being used to hurt people and we're just told "oh it's just technological progress", or some other dismissive statement. AI's core purpose is that it will be used as a tool for the rich and powerful to exercise more control over society. essential to place themselves as modern day kings and queens.

the knife analogy is not parallel. it's an old example, but try to say the same about a bomb or an electric chair. some things are designed for one purpose, not dependent on how we choose to use them.

The last analogy with a knife is completely bonkers. He says a knife is a knife but a knife has been designed to cut. Evan a butter knife has been designed with a cutting edge. Whereas a stick could be used as a walking stick could be used as threatened could be used to paddle the boat but a knife is designed to cut.

I've done multiple conference talks and written several articles making this point: Technology and design are not value neutral. In fact, if they were value neutral, we wouldn't engage in designing technology at all. To the contrary, design and technology is the deliberate bringing into the world what the designer and creator believes should exist. Thus, design and technology is a reflection of the values of the creator, and by using the technology, you adopt those values. Which is why I refuse to use Twitter: Elon's values are orthogonal to mine.
