I always thought he was Black & Indo-Caribbean (like trini or Guyanese). In my mind as kid, Naveen’s family had sailed from the a country in the Caribbean or South America to New Orleans which does make sense geographically

I get that Naveen isn’t canonically Indian and that Maldonia is a fictional country. But I also think it’s fair to recognize that his design and features have been widely interpreted as drawing inspiration from South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities. Because his ethnicity isn’t explicitly defined, I don’t think it would be wrong for a South Asian actor to portray him. Just like people have embraced different interpretations of other fictional characters whose stories aren’t centered on a specific ethnicity, I think there’s room for that here too. Representation doesn’t have to erase anyone, it can also acknowledge the influences that helped shape a character.

I'm so glad you mentioned Sri Lanka. One thing that really frustrates me is that all non "white" characters (mostly South Asian and African) get mixed into a one single character or country, like Aladin for example this movie combines both south asia and the middle East into one even though these countries are about as close as England to Greece.
