Jurors in the trial examining a police officer’s response to the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting were instructed to disregard testimony from a former teacher after the defense objected to prosecutors failing to disclose her statements before trial. Judge Sid Harle, presiding in Texas’ 4th Judicial Region, ordered that the testimony of Stephanie Hale be stricken from the record. Hale had testified about the suspected location of the gunman, prompting the defense’s complaint. While removing the testimony, Harle emphasized that Hale was not at fault. “You did absolutely nothing wrong,” he told her, adding that the decision was procedural and not a reflection on her actions or credibility. The judge also referenced his own traumatic experience of being seriously injured in a drunk-driving crash, explaining how trauma can affect memory over time. He thanked Hale for her courage and dismissed her with the court’s appreciation. Harle is overseeing the trial of Adrian Gonzales, a former Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District officer who was present at Robb Elementary on May 24, 2022, when an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers. The trial was moved to Nueces County due to extensive publicity in Uvalde County. Gonzales faces 29 counts of child endangerment or abandonment related to his response that day. Judge Harle has served on the bench for nearly four decades and is currently in his third term as presiding judge, following a reappointment by Governor Greg Abbott in September 2025. He previously served 30 years in Texas’ 226th Judicial District Court in Bexar County. #law #crime #court
