@trad.archive88: The League of German Maidens (Bund Deutscher Mädel, or BDM) was a youth organization for girls in Germany during the 1930s and 1940s. It generally enrolled girls between the ages of 14 and 18, while younger girls aged 10 to 14 typically belonged to the Jungmädel (Young Girls) section before moving into the BDM. Activities often included hiking, camping, athletics, gymnastics, swimming, folk dancing, singing, arts and crafts, first aid, community service, and organized social gatherings. Members also took part in seasonal camps, outdoor excursions, sports competitions, and cultural events designed to encourage teamwork, physical fitness, and participation in organized youth life. During the later years of the war, many members were assigned to civil support roles such as assisting hospitals, childcare, office work, and agricultural labor as manpower shortages increased.
