OMG… why are huge limestone planters SO expensive?! 😭 So I thought… could I just make my own instead? 👀 This project was actually inspired by the beautiful stone and teak pieces from @Castlery UK . As soon as I saw their Guin coffee table and Rio collection, I knew I wanted to create matching oversized limestone planters to bring the whole Mediterranean courtyard together. Safe to say… I got a little carried away 😂🤍 The planters themselves are made from insulation board, built up with tile adhesive and scrim tape before carving into the surface by hand while it dried to create that aged, hand carved limestone texture. A little layered paint afterwards gave them the weathered antique finish I was hoping for and honestly… I can’t believe how realistic they turned out. To tie everything together, I also made a matching stone succulent bowl using nothing more than two mixing bowls as a mould. I weighted the inner bowl down with sand while the concrete cured and it worked so much better than I expected. It now looks like it was designed to sit alongside the stone furniture. The warmth of the Rio teak furniture against the soft limestone tones is exactly the combination I had in my head. It feels timeless, Mediterranean and full of texture. The stone side table and coffee table are both from the Guin collection in the shade shell, and they’re genuinely some of my favourite pieces I’ve added to the garden. I’m sure I’ll get asked how long these DIY stone pots will last… and honestly, I don’t know! 😅 But I made a few using the same technique last year and they’ve been through a British winter, plenty of frost, and they’re still looking brilliant. I honestly couldn’t be happier with how this Mediterranean garden has come together. What do you think… would you have guessed these planters weren’t real limestone? 🤍
