There’s so much more to the story of Huckleberry than a clever adventure cat who talks with buttons and does tricks. And you haven’t heard it because most of that other stuff is me. Sharing even seemingly “simple” or fundamental things like the fact I have chronic health issues is scary. It gives people ways to hurt you. But I also think sharing is how I find my people (or in this case my cat?). It’s hard to admit I would’ve have looked at an animal with the same issues as me and thought, “he’s too much, he’d be a burden, he’ll be too expensive.” I think a lot of people would probably think the same. There’s a reason old, sick, or disabled pets are often the last pick at the shelter. They’re not easy. They “take” more time and effort and money. I’ve spent years trying to make my sick self “easier”. To try and need as little as possible so that I won’t be hard to love. Having a sick cat, and never once thinking he is “taking” anything from me, feels like it’s starting to heal something in me. And seeing how many of you love him anyway is doing the same. I don’t really believe in fate or god or some all knowing, all powerful universe. But whatever it is that’s out there, it somehow knew we’d both be better off with each other. P.s. thanks for reading my whole rambling thoughts on the internet that may have been better left to my journal. (Unless you skipped to the end. Then, idk, have a great day anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️) #chronicillness #disabled #deafcat #rescuecat #chronicpain
