As someone who has had multiple “big” comments, mine are usually involuntary except for that puffer fish dragpath edit cuz I wanna keep going back to it. But I have a comment with over 100k likes on it. It’s the Pentagon Starbucks and McDonald’s beef where 2 people who worked at the fast food chains in the Pentagon started a rap battle over TikTok. That comment has gained me maybe 100 followers over the course of an entire year and was also a completely unintentional big comment. It has now instilled in me this weird feeling of “surely this one will get big too” whenever I go to comment, and I just have to stop myself. So, TLDR: bait commenters have probably gotten a taste of that high once and can’t come off of it.
