I used to tell myself the same thing over and over. "If my husband didn't love me anymore... he would just leave." It was the only explanation that helped me sleep at night. Because surely no one would stay in a marriage with someone they didn't love. I was wrong. For years, I blamed myself for everything that was wrong between us. When he came home and barely acknowledged me, I thought I wasn't making him feel welcome enough. When he criticized dinner, I stayed up watching cooking videos, convinced I could become the wife he wanted. When he stopped holding my hand, I bought new dresses, changed my hairstyle, started wearing makeup around the house... hoping he'd look at me the way he used to. He never did. If I cried, he'd sigh. If I tried to talk about our marriage, he'd say, "Why do you always have to make everything so dramatic?" Eventually, I stopped talking. I convinced myself that peace was better than rejection. I became the wife who remembered every birthday. Every doctor's appointment. Every bill. Every school meeting. I ironed his shirts before he asked. Packed his lunch every morning. Made sure his favourite meals were on the table. If he forgot something, I drove across town to take it to him. I knew exactly how he liked his coffee. Exactly how he liked his towels folded. Exactly how he liked everything. One night, I caught myself Googling... "How do you make your husband fall back in love with you?" I read hundreds of articles. Be more affectionate. Be more attractive. Be more supportive. So I tried. For two more years... I tried. Then something happened that I still think about almost every day. I was cleaning our bedroom when I found an old photo album from when we were dating. There I was... Laughing. Dancing. Smiling without forcing it. I barely recognized the woman in those pictures. Somewhere between becoming his wife and trying to keep him happy... I had disappeared. A few weeks later, I overheard a conversation that changed everything. His friend asked, "You always complain about your wife. Why are you still married?" I stopped walking. I waited for him to defend me. To say he loved me. To say marriage was worth fighting for. Instead... He laughed. "Why would I leave?" "She does everything." "The house runs itself because of her." "The kids adore her." "I don't have to worry about anything." Then he said the sentence I'll never forget. "I'd be stupid to leave a life this comfortable." I couldn't breathe. Not because he said he didn't love me. But because... He never even mentioned love. To him, I wasn't his wife. I was a lifestyle. That night, I didn't cry. For the first time in years... I felt strangely calm. After dinner, I sat across from him and quietly said, "Can I ask you something?" He nodded without looking up from his phone. "If I stopped cooking... stopped cleaning... stopped remembering everything... stopped making your life easier..." He finally looked at me. "Would you still want to be married to me?" He stared at me for what felt like forever. Then he looked away. He never answered. He didn't have to. His silence told me everything. I smiled through tears and whispered, "The difference between you and me is that I love you..." "You only love what I do for you." He didn't deny it. He didn't argue. He simply got up and walked into the other room. And that's when the final piece fell into place. For years, I believed I wasn't enough. I believed if I loved harder, served better, complained less, smiled more... He would finally choose me. But he had already made his choice. He had chosen comfort over connection. Convenience over love. The biggest plot twist wasn't discovering that my husband didn't love me. It was discovering that. I had spent years to become enough for someone who had stopped seeing me as a partner. The next morning, I did something I hadn't done in years. I made breakfast for myself. When he asked, "Where's mine?" I smiled and said, It's time you learn the difference between having a wife.. and having someone who takes care of you For the first time I chose me.#fyp #uktiktok
