There are many authentic hadiths highlighting the importance of righteous companionship. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A person is upon the religion of his close friend, so let one of you look carefully at whom he takes as a close friend.” — Narrated by Abu Dawud (4833) and Al-Tirmidhi (2378) And he ﷺ also said: “The example of a righteous companion and a bad companion is like the seller of musk and the blacksmith. The seller of musk will either give you some, sell you some, or you will smell its pleasant fragrance. As for the blacksmith, he will either burn your clothes or you will smell an unpleasant odour.”
