Yes, in rare but serious cases, high-velocity neck manipulations—especially in the upper cervical spine—can lead to vertebral artery dissection (VAD) or carotid artery dissection, which may cause ischemic strokes, brainstem infarcts, or even paralysis. 🧠 Why does this happen?
The vertebral arteries travel through the transverse foramina of the cervical vertebrae and are vulnerable to rotational or hyperextension injuries.
