@jasonbreakdownn: 🇺🇸 THE RUST BELT IS BUILDING ITS OWN TATTOO LANGUAGE. I’ve got to highlight a special region of the U.S. right now because some of my favorite artists are coming out of the Rust Belt, and there’s something seriously cool happening here. It’s dark. Muddy. Muted. Punk rock. Hardcore. Brutal. And they’re not trying to make it pretty. There’s this raw, hand-drawn, organic feeling running through the work that feels completely different from the tighter traditional influence you see coming out of the East Coast or the cleaner contemporary precision of the West Coast. But it’s not just “old school” either. These artists are pulling from tribal, new school, medieval imagery, traditional tattooing, underground art and contemporary design, then washing it all together in these dirty, toned-down palettes that make everything feel worn-in, aggressive and almost beautifully imperfect. It feels like its own little micro-genre is forming in the middle of the country. Pennsylvania. Illinois. Michigan. Ohio. Missouri. The Rust Belt is cooking right now. Give every one of these artists a follow.
