@coyjandreau: I love #xmen and I’ve loved the recent buzz circulating X’Men’s rumored castings. Here’s who I’D love to see play Charles Xavier alongside #magneto and how I’d bring him in. #fancasting #marvel #charlesxavier
it’s so easy to say magneto has slowed aging though

Magneto being Jewish and surviving the holocaust and everything that came with it is the most important part of his character and is his entire motivation. You can’t take away that huge of a part of the character identity especially if it’s as big as magnetos. it wasn’t that he just survived a genocide it was also everything around it like the identifying them with yellow stars, the prejudice that built up and then being put in camps and then being dehumanized more and more throughout it. Magneto in the comics also has slowed aging and has been cloned. I think so you could definitely find a workaround for it given its importance.

Don’t really understand how you’re saying the Holocaust was too long ago to be relevant but that the Civil Rights Movement (literally 10 years later) was “just now” and “it just happened”. Also Prof. X and Magneto are not based on MLK and Malcolm X. Chris Claremont was inspired by David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin.

the more and more we move away from the Holocaust - the less and less it makes sense for it to be part of magnetos story if it's in modern day.

I understand wanting to modernize the characters, but being Jewish is so important to the character of Magneto. You can easily say his mutation slowly ages him. The reason why he is such a radical is because of experiencing the Holocaust, which is one of the worst atrocities in human history.

I hate when YALL compare Magneto and Malcom X, you're basically saying Malcom is EVIL.

For someone with so much knowledge in the field, it’s so disappointing that your serious about changing Magneto’s origin

Magneto can really be any group that has suffered genocide and or oppression at high forms and it would still work he can be Palestinian , Armenian , Rwandan , Sudanese etc

having mangeto being a holocaust survivor shouldnt be changed, you can easily find a work around its a superhero movie you can find a fantastical reason, if you change his backstory to a different tragedy that gets into very weird territory where we end up comparing tragedies which is a dangerous slope

“the holocaust was so long ago!” magneto can control metal with his mind. it’s a story about mutants. he can be as old as he damn well needs to be. there’s a reason the comics haven’t retconned his backstory when they have retconned other characters whose backstories are tied to historical events (ie the punisher.) i have no issue with race swapping magneto, but he still needs to be jewish and he needs to be holocaust survivor. wanting to replace those things wholesale for some other kind of racial or religious oppression is unbelievably tone deaf and tacky.

If they don’t want to do slow aging, make it an in-universe “holocaust.” Some MCU event that’s unique to the MCU that would warrant a similar Magneto backstory.

I absolutely love you Coy and your ideas for X-men, but this might be the one thing I disagree with you on. The Jewish identity is not only important because of magneto’s backstory and because the two creators were Jewish but because they more closely resemble Menachem Begin and David Ben-Gurion (prime ministers of Israel) as least this is what Claremont said inspired his take on the two. All love!🙌🏾

It is actually important that Charles be white imo. Him having the privilege he does, and not understanding the persecution that Magneto went through is important to their relationship

people in your comments don't realize you know more about the comics and care more about the comics than almost anyone else watching. this is SUCH a valid take. it makes it more relevant to now adays since gen Z and below have for some reason forgotten how terrible the holocaust was, so 60s racism and the comparison of Malcolm X and MLK is great. it adds more emotional relevance to the movie for Gen Z and younger viewers. although its hard to imagine the main MCU cast be like this, its still a GREAT take, and I haven't researched, but I hope this already exists as a comic. if not, they should really write one.
