Contamination OCD isn’t always about germs. Sometimes a thought, memory, word, person, or experience can make something suddenly feel ruined, tainted, or “wrong” even though nothing physically changed. That can be incredibly confusing for parents because the reaction often doesn’t make logical sense from the outside. But to the person with OCD, the contamination can feel very real, and avoiding, replacing, throwing away, or mentally undoing things can become the way they try to get relief.
