My advice for beginning art teachers! Whether this is your first year of teaching ever, or you’re changing your teaching trajectory from another area, I hope you find something helpful in this post. 💖 If I could add any more advice to this already loooong post it would be: ❤️Try not to take work home. Sometimes it happens, especially around art show season for me but I try to avoid it, especially since having kids. 🧡Get the kids involved with setting up supplies and cleaning up at the end of class. My class before kindergarten always sets up for them after they clean up their own supplies. 💛Not everyone will like you, or like that you teach art, or think it’s fair that your work looks different from theirs, and that’s ok! I try to stay in my lane and be the goofy goober I am. Sometimes people don’t think I’m funny. 😮‍💨 Take me as I am or not, this is me 🤪. 💚You don’t have to have an art show. Sometimes there might be a required district show or an admin that demands it, but it not…you really don’t have to have one I promise! If you don’t know where to start, I have lots of posts about running one. 🩵If you start to feel overwhelmed- get off of here. Find some inspiration outside, in a book, or from a real life fellow art teacher. The internet is weird and a highlight reel. Take a break when you need it. I have lots of posts on my IG feed about art room jobs, classroom management, organizing, art shows, planning, etc. etc. but this is a post from the heart. Things that are hard to explain but sometimes just need to be hashed out. I have received so many messages from people who are teaching elementary art for the first time this coming school year. I wish you the best year ever, and seriously, reach out if you ever have questions. Feel free to turn this comment section into a Q&A amongst yourselves! I truly have the best followers here! (I block the naughties 😂) 🎨. • • • • • • • • • • • #elementaryart #artteacher #artteacherproblems #artteachersofinstagram arteducation Art teacher Teacher life Teacher problems Art teacher problem
