@aero.total: NEW VIDEO ADDS ANOTHER CLUE TO VN34 TAKEOFF INCIDENT New footage from Munich Airport shows long, apparently continuous tire marks along Runway 26L following the abnormal takeoff of Vietnam Airlines flight VN34 on August 15. The marks may be consistent with braking during part of the takeoff roll, although the footage alone cannot establish exactly what happened or why braking may have occurred. According to an update from The Aviation Herald, available evidence suggests braking on the right main landing gear began approximately 210 meters before the end of the runway. The Aviation Herald also reports having received photographic evidence — which it is not authorized to publish — showing the Boeing 787-9, registration VN-A867, becoming airborne approximately 120 meters beyond the end of the runway, over the grass and near the first row of approach lights. Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority has separately confirmed that shortly after takeoff the crew received TAIL STRIKE and LOW TYRE PRESSURE warnings. No brake-system malfunction has been officially established, and the cause of VN34’s exceptionally long takeoff roll remains under investigation. 🎥 Social Media Source: The Aviation Herald / CAAV #VietnamAirlines #Boeing787 #VN34 #MunichAirport #AviationSafety

I've left the handbrake on before, it's easily done when you're texting 😮

It seems tires or brakes were the issue here

Just my theory: I don’t think the scratch marks necessarily mean the brakes were ON during the takeoff roll. If the brakes were applied strongly enough to cause those marks throughout the takeoff, you would expect a major effect on acceleration and indications/warnings to the crew.
What may have happened is this: near the end of the runway, the aircraft started to lift off while also suffering the tail strike. For a brief moment, the main landing gear may have become airborne. On many aircraft, the wheels are automatically braked/stopped after liftoff so they aren’t spinning when they retract into the wheel well.
If the main wheels briefly left the runway, started being stopped, and then touched the runway again during the abnormal rotation/tail-strike sequence, that could potentially explain the tyre marks near the end of the runway.
This is only a theory — the investigation will tell us what actually happened.

I would say lucky passengers it could have been a horrible disaster kudos to the pilots !

i think one of the brake system on the other side slowly activated because of unknown issue or fault, as the plane was about to reach v1 causing it to struggle to reach its takeoff speed cause there is no way that plane would accelerate with parking brakes on the tail strike was caused by the pilots increasing the AOA of the plane to took of and thats the best decision with that short amount of time and runway to spare when they finally realized something was wrong thats the best option.. given the plane full of av fuel hitting the ground with a lot of souls and engines max out would be a very different story... anyway this was just my opinion.. and still big salute for the pilots fast thinking and saving all the passengers on board

I said it was likely brake issue and somebody just told me I'm wrong 🤔 but a brake issue would definitely cause a delay in V1 takeoff

Then it’s a brake-related failure, not a performance issue. A locked left MLG brake would seriously compromise acceleration. The investigation will clarify.
