I had a friend whose dad was dying, had like 5 other siblings, and a mom who was busy with her dying husband. I told my mom he didn’t always have money for lunch (I had free lunch, plus she’d let me pack one on days I didn’t want school lunch). She sent me with a sandwich and a snack every day until I moved away after 8th grade. I’d either eat what I brought or the tray and give him the other. Or we’d split (half a sandwich, half the tray) kind of thing.

The way you handled that w/ your child is 100% how i would 🫶🏻❤️like no you will not go without filling your tummy and with people filling their hands in your food. But if there is a kid truly in need there’s no reason why I would allow that either and I would also offer to take an extra lunch for them if needed. 🫶🏻

When I was a kid, we packed our own lunches. Whenever we had Nutella, we would make Nutella sandwiches. The first time I brought a Nutella sandwich to school the kids said why are you eating poop sandwiches? So I shared little bits of my sandwich with the one or two brave people who would try it. Before too long, everyone wanted a little bite of my sandwich and I had to bring two sandwiches to school every day because everyone wanted a piece. I didn’t let them take bites out of it. I would rip parts off but at a certain point it like gets you popularity points for being a good sharer if you have good food. Not saying it’s right and I don’t encourage my kids to share for a variety of reasons, including food, allergies. I always tell my kids that if they have a friend and they want to bring extra food for that Friend they need to bring it separately.

The year I found out half my daughter’s class got sick because they were eating her lunches …………we had a long talk about that. I do know when I make cornbread and I have to put extra in her lunch to share 🤦🏽♀️

My daughter always gives her snacks to friends asking. Shes afraid if she says no they won’t like her but I’m like tell them your MOM SAID NOoooo! She still shares so I just send extras cause my kids are at school til 5pm! But I make lunch for all 3 kids I have a 12th, 7th and 4th grader this year
