I joined the groups for my kids school. But they’re very inconsistent about getting information out. And I have to seek it out. I don’t see it organically through Facebook. It’s super frustrating and I miss a lot of information.

As a PTA mom, unfortunately Facebook is one of the only ways to get information out. We can only email PTA members (which is less than half the parents) and sending out flyers (at least at my school) doesn’t work because a PTA member has to copy them and stuff mailboxes and it’s hard to find a parent who is able to do it. I wish there was a better way.

You Are Not over thinking it. At almost 55 yrs old, I wish I knew where social media was going when my kids were young. I haven't posted personal info in 10+ yrs.

I don't have Facebook. my kids are adults but there has to be other ways to be involved without advertising which school they attend. that freaks me out too

you need to check your privacy settings on your FB profile. Maybe join private pages related to the school where the general public doesn't have access. Then people won't see unless they are part of the group. I did all those things so I could talk freely in my support group.

You’re not overthinking it. I’ve missed so many notifications over the years because of only posting on FB. Thankfully our school system has a permission slip to allow or ban sharing of my child’s information or pictures in posts, newspaper, etc.
