@itsdrsam: I wanted to share what’s been coming up for me in hopes it helps others not feel alone. And of course everything ties back to my research bc it’s not only what I’ve experienced but what 1,003 other women across 29 countries also shared. For a lot of high-achieving women who may also be parentified daughters, and high-masking or neurodivergent functioning in way where you seem highly successful but you still have needs that are going unmet can make life feel like all you’re doing is constantly surviving. It’s a loop with High-Functioning Survival Mode™ at the base and societal structures constantly reinforcing it. #highachievingwomen #highfunctioningsurvivalmode #depression #successfulwomen
LIKEWISE!!!! I read her book and got to work on myself! I had to stop caring what people thought and fight through perfectionism. I think about her soo much

If I had not become pregnant with my daughter in 2010 I would not have been here. 16yrs later I’m still here because I’m too scared to leave my children to navigate this world alone. My children literally save me every. single. day 💯

I have personally gone through periods of feeling like this. Crying alone, masking at work, feeling like I have no purpose, overwhelming feeling of doom and loneliness, questioning my existence

The problem is that it’s performative. We have to create a life that feels good to us, even if it doesn’t impress others. Ask yourself what you actually like. Who would you be if no one could perceive you? Become that person

This!! Especially for black women, we’re usually measured by our accomplishments and needing to do do do without processing who we are beyond that.

I remember before it happened she posted a video on here saying people were messaging her vile things, telling her to follow through. I think of her and her family often especially her mom.

I was 20 when she won Miss USA and I was so happy to see someone like her win especially from NC. When she passed I felt like I related to her even more. I have to tell myself “look how far you’ve come, you should be happy and thankful” but sometimes it doesn’t feel like it’s enough.

So glad to see you keep her name alive because same. Her story stuck with me too and made me take therapy serious. I swore once I reach my goals I'd feel ok so learning about high functioning depression taught me so much.

Her death really shook me. I’ve dealt with depression for years not in the way as Cheslie but I didn’t even know she was suffering. It definitely devastated me because I wasn’t that much older than her and it really hit me hard
