The precious metals that are required are often mined in a manner that destroys the land and ecosystems. The carbon footprint of making an electric car is the same as running an old diesel car for 10 years….. shall I go on?

Let's be nuanced about this. Whoever said this is not completely wrong; EVs are not exactly doing the environment many favors - they just happen to overall be less harmful than fossil cars. I mean, EVs carry a high initial CO² debt from production - not exactly great... and the mining for the minerals and elements does harm to the local as well as the global environment. But yes, compared to a fossil car that keeps on polluting once put on the road (plus all the oil drilling, refining, transport, etc. to get the fuel to the car) an EV is the less harmful, since EVs once having driven some 20,000-100,000 km in total become the cleaner choice. Also, once depleted, the battery can at least be recycled. We'll still need oil in an electrical automotive future. But at least a lot of that oil will be used for lubrication or as an ingredient in products with mostly heavy transportation still (currently) needing fossil fuel. But hopefully some day they'll be able to find that truly energy dense battery that will enable a driver to drive thousands of kilometers on a single charge and can be applied to something like planes, boats and heavy machinery.

Iv got a EV’ I don’t care for the environment views or cost involved . I prefer how they drive and how much more from you get from a flat floor. As for charging isn’t a problem as we got a drive way.

you realise that many electric cars still use oil in the motors and drivetrain right? plus you gotta put into context how the lithium is gathered for the batteries, the miles of thick copper cables, and the plastic that surrounds literally everything on them. theyre actually worse for the environment than a petrol or diesel when made and for around a couple thousand miles after

Wouldn't worry about cars. Heathrow has 1300 flights per day. One four hour flight used 600 gallons of fuel. Add up all the flights from other airports also. Then if you really are concerned about the environment, ask the government how much co2 had been in bombing other countries since the start of the gulf war in the early 90s. None if these details gets reported. It's always the cars fault.

have you seen a battery pack and all the cells , stripping a engine back to the block is by far more environmentally friendly than stripping hundreds of battery cells out of a car battery pack .
