All those non-emotional tasks are easy for an Avoidant but emotions are overwhelming. So they feel like they are succeeding in life bc of all the things they're "good" at and endorses their behavior in relationships. Its a false sense of success to silence the noise they don't want to deal with.

100% spot on!! Thank you for validating this observation. It used to drive me nuts. Because he always had loser jobs. Plus I’m older than him & make a lot more money… it became obvious that he was also trying to look “important & valuable” at his shitty job

Can confirm they will absolutely volunteer for every extra curricular or over time activity they can get. Anything to be away from their family and keep that autonomy. In fact they often get promoted. lol

mine hated his job, bitched about it constantly but would give that shit 110%, up late working on projects, going in early af, overtime out the wazoo bc he enjoyed the constant praise/validation of being told he was "the one they can always count on"... the same man that couldnt tell you what his kids' favorite colors are and never remembered the one night a week he was responsible for dinner. oh the irony

True! I’ve always thought this. Deep down they know they are defective in other areas of life so they need to compensate and job seems like a socially acceptable excuse most of the time
