To be clear, he was speaking of European fascists whose modern day American equivalents are the majority of the democrat party. The conservatives and libertarians of the USA are at the opposite end of the spectrum from what was then the European left and right. Their end goals were the same, totalitarian dictatorship. They were and remain left and right as there are left and right rails on a train track. Their train is headed in the same direction. The American right is not the European right, and it never was. The democrats in the USA combine ideologies from both the left and right in Europe. We should have been fighting the communists too.
