Hoodoo is also a lifestyle and a spiritual science

Babalawo ifalosa :
As a Babaláwo I would say many Black Americans practice Ifá because they are seeking a direct connection to their African roots, especially Yoruba spirituality. Ifá gives them a traditional system of divination, Òrìṣà worship, ancestral wisdom and guidance that has been preserved in Yorùbáland for generations Hoodoo is also an important African-American spiritual tradition, but it developed differently in the Americas So for many people, choosing Ifá is simply about reconnecting with Yoruba ancestry and understanding where part of their spiritual heritage comes from Both traditions have their own history and meaning Àṣẹ.

As a descendent of the enslaved, I practice both. That’s the contract they designed for me.

What people don’t realize is that you can practice both as a BLACK AMERICAN.

It’s funny because one of my spiritual mentors practices both. He started with Hoodoo as it’s our birthright as African-Americans, & then IFÁ chose him. He’s a Priest, a son of Shango, & still a practitioner of Hoodoo. Now I will say, it can get confusing & messy practicing multiple if one is not properly trained & initiated properly.

There are different forms of Ifa around the world in Brazil and many other places. We don't all practice the Nigerian Ifa.

Probably because they’re being called by their elder ancestors to practice both. A lot of us have ties to both. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with practicing both especially practicing something that belonged to us before it was stripped away from us.

I really think ppl not gettin that our practice chose us bc our egun deals with us. But I think that’s where the disconnection is—— if u don’t know what “egun” is or have those exact downloads u wouldn’t understand what makes some black Americans deal with elders who help with the instruction of “egun”. Dealing with Orishas do require guidance..:.like wtf are ppl NOT understanding ?

You should to do what calls to your Ori . There is so much going on this planet , not everyone is meant for everything. I say we stop comparing this is and that as a whole … and trying to debunk one or the other . Simply saying do what you doo boo 😂 and this is not debunking your post or going against it I’m just stating my opinion !! Much love Queen

i practice both. everything you said i felt 100%. i think of it as when i do spiritual work with my ancestors, it will always be hoodoo because that’s what represents my ancestors and how they worked. especially me growing up here specifically. hoodoo is quite literally the breath of my ancestors and idk what i would do without it. IFA & Orisha is a philosophy and rules i have for myself in my time on Earth and discovering what my true destiny is. Amen to everything you saiddddd.

Multiple non-black elders have told me my core gift is Shamanic bc of my gift of naturally calling spirits down without tools or anything extra.

Yes hoodoo is embedded in our dna, as Black Americans we practice hoodoo traditions without even realizing we are. Many practice both, the same way a hoodoo practitioner can be Christian
