In the hadith of Abu Dharr, he said something that very few people do but is very heavy on the scale of good deeds, is reduce how much you talk. The more you talk, the less valuable it is. We understand that in economics, the more there is of something, the cheaper it is. If it's a shortage, it goes up. Ask yourself, how many times did Allah سبحانه وتعالى speak to us? The Quran, the Injil, the Zabur. Very few times, but how valuable is that speech? How much did the Prophet ﷺ talk? We know everything he said, and it's in books. So the more you talk, the less valuable it becomes. So get used to measuring when you say something. Why? Because it's the beginning of measuring your relationship with others. When I say something, do I need to say it? Is it good, or is it better that I just don't say something? And you couple that with courteous and polite behavior. You measure yourself by how you leave others. Because akhlaq, character, is something people was struggle to describe because cultures differ. You might go one place to have different norms to others. So the Prophet ﷺ gives us a very clear definition. You leave the person in a better place than where you started. Because that is universal. If I'm with someone and I smile, even if I did nothing, I've left them a little bit happier, a little bit better. When I'm talking, I'm always thinking about them. Now these 3 things are enough if you know Allah's with you. Are you gonna not pray? You're gonna pray. Are you gonna swear? Of course not. Are you gonna look at haram? No. Because Allah's watching you. Allah's with you. So these 3 things are enough to cover everything.
