When my hubby and I were looking for a home, my father in law told us - make sure you can afford the payment and other expenses on his son’s income. I had been in business for a yr and thought “ wow he doesn’t believe in me?” Come 4 years later we decided to build our own facility and we had to live on one income. I was glad we listened

I was divorced by the time I was 22 and with a child. I live life practicing and prepping for worst case scenario (like another divorce) to benefit my family! You’re so right. Anyone can lose a job at any time. Things happen and we have to prepare ourselves now

I’m only 23 but people say the 50/30/20 rule (needs/wants/savings+debt) like it’s gospel….. for me my goal once i’m on my own is more like 50% needs, 35% savings, 15% wants. I budget $200 per biweekly paycheck for my fun money which is ~14%. After that, all student loans and some savings. And when I make more money the needs+wants % will go down and savings will go up…
