@thepottymouthguru: Replying to @Sylvia✨Soul Level Human Sometimes two people are arguing about an apology when the actual problem happened much earlier in the conversation. If you say one thing but hope your partner understands that you mean the opposite, there’s a pretty good chance somebody is going to get hurt. You’re allowed to feel disappointed that they didn’t read what was underneath your words. You’re allowed to wish they’d understood you differently. But that doesn’t automatically make them responsible for failing a test they didn’t know they were taking. Say what you need. And if you realize afterward that you didn’t, own that too. Relationships are hard enough without requiring mind reading. ❤️🤟🏻🌿 #UNFUCKYOURSELF #THEPOTTYMOUTHGURU #Relationships #Communication #Attachment
I disagree with an apology always needing changed behaviour. This is a situation where for me there would be a hard limit. ‘I’m sorry this happened, I acknowledge how you feel. Next time, I need explicit communication or I’m going to let you know you hurt your own feelings.’

I so appreciate your response. Breaking it down like that really helps me have some clarity. Sometimes I feel crazy in this dynamic and I don’t know which way is up anymore. 😞

You can validate someone’s hurt without agreeing that you were responsible for causing it. And you can have good intentions while still being responsible for your impact. Knowing which one you’re dealing with requires context, not a slogan. ❤️

I will start off by saying he needs to realize you have to have clarity in your communication. I'm speaking as a spouse married to a possible autistic husband. I find it's hard to communicate wanting to be chosen by your spouse. It's because you want it to be genuinely from them and to know you intimately to the point that they can make difficult things a little easier. For example a win on my husband's behalf was that he noticed me being excluded in a group setting so he came and got me to say would you like to come with me. It took away the awkwardness, made me feel less rejected and stopped my night being ruined. Plus I felt really seen and loved. I think once we look at caring about how we make the other feel and the connection over being right or wrong it can really transform a relationship. Unfortunately someone has to initiate and do a little more to get it going but it does require effort from both and is willing to change how they currently do things. This is something that has been a long standing issue with my husband and I always thought you have to communicate everything because they can't read your mind. that sounds great on paper, but it can make the other person feel very empty in something's missing. Honestly your content helps a lot especially with intent and impact.

Ladies, we are looking at the wrong question here…the right question is why would he be so unreasonable. He’s not an idiot. He covertly controlling her being out. He won’t. SAY that she can’t be out, but he is making it so memorably miserable for her to be out that she won’t do it again. Next time her girlfriends invite her somewhere she is less likely to go because she doesn’t want to upset her marriage.
