🚨 Handling the silent treatment 👇 Firstly the perspective shown in this video does not apply to emotionally manipulative people who use the silent treatment to gain control and power. The perspective shown in this video applies to the large proportion of people who use passive-aggressive communication because they don’t feel able to communicate what is bothering them directly. This can be for various different reasons for example fear of conflict, emotional immaturity, lack of skills to communicate assertively and not feeling safe to be honest. By modelling direct respectful and open communication yourself sometimes this can shift the dynamic. These sorts of phrases can be helpful: “I’ve noticed that you haven’t been responding to my emails or text messages and wanted to check in to see if everything’s ok?” If they respond with everything is fine try: “I can sense that everything isn’t fine. If I have unintentionally said or done something that has caused you offence it would be good to talk about it so we can resolve it” The goal is to ensure you have shown up to the interaction with integrity and emotional maturity. If they decide to continue this behaviour then that’s when boundaries come in. 📌 Please be mindful that the approach shown in this video will not fit every situation so always use your own judgement and adapt it to suit your own circumstances. You’ve got this! 💬 Leave a 🙌 in the comments if this was helpful 👀 ✈️ Share with someone you think this could help 🚀 Follow for more tips on handling tricky people and situations at work #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #corporatelife #emotionalintelligence #communicationskills #manager #difficultpeople #difficultconversations #managingpeople #conflictmanagement #passiveaggressive
