By the time dinner was ready, the sky outside had already turned a deep shade of orange. The aroma of grilled seafood, butter, garlic, and steamed rice filled the entire house. Downstairs—everyone was already gathering around the long dining table. “Dinner!” “Wash your hands!” Upstairs, Lisa gently stood while carrying Ella securely against her shoulder. Her fever had gone down after medicine, but she remained sleepy. She rested her head against Lisa’s shoulder without complaining. Jennie smiled softly as she packed everything Ella might need into a small tote bag. Her thermometer. Medicine. Water bottle. Duck plushie. A small blanket. Lisa laughed. “Mommy.” “What?” “Sa baba lang tayo punta.” Jennie zipped the bag anyway. “I know.” “But she’s sick.” Lisa smiled fondly. “Ni packed mo na kalahati ng kwarto eh.” Jennie looked at Ella. “My baby deserves half the room.” ⸻ When they reached the dining area—everyone immediately made space. “There they are.” “How’s Em-Em?” “Still sleepy?” Wonwoo gently patted Ella’s head. “Our little explorer taking a break?” Ella nodded against Lisa’s shoulder. “Tata…” “Get well soon, okay?” “Okay.” Lisa sat down first, keeping Ella comfortably on her lap instead of letting her sit alone. Ella immediately leaned back against Lisa’s chest. Jennie sat beside them, placing the little tote bag within reach. “My baby comfortable?” Ella nodded. Dinner was served. There were grilled prawns. Crabs. Steamed fish. Squid. Shellfish. And plenty of rice. Lisa looked down at Ella. “Hungry enough for a few bites?” Ella nodded slowly. “A little.” “That’s enough.” Lisa reached for a piece of fish first. Carefully checking for tiny bones. Then she flaked it into small pieces. She blew on it gently before holding it up. “Open.” Ella obediently opened her mouth. “Ah.” Tiny bite. She chewed slowly. Then swallowed. “Good?” “Mhm.” Lisa smiled. “Good girl.” Then came the prawns. Lisa patiently peeled away the shell. Made sure nothing sharp remained. Cut the meat into tiny pieces. Then fed Ella another bite. Jennie watched quietly, smiling to herself. Lisa did the same with the crab. Then the squid. Taking her time with every single piece so Ella wouldn’t have to worry about shells or bones. Ella watched every movement carefully. After another bite, she looked up at Lisa. “Dammy.” “Hm?” “Thank you.” Lisa’s heart immediately melted. “Aww.” She kissed Ella’s forehead. “You’re welcome, peanut.” Ella smiled sleepily. “You peel for me.” “Of course.” “I don’t want my baby accidentally biting into a shell.” Jennie leaned over and gently brushed Ella’s hair away from her face. “Your dammy takes very good care of you.” Ella nodded proudly. “Best peeler.” The whole table laughed. Joshua pointed at Lisa. “Congratulations.” “You’ve earned a new title.” Lisa grinned. “Ceo by day.” “Professional seafood peeler by night.” Ella giggled softly before another tiny sniffle escaped. Lisa immediately reached for a tissue and gently wiped her nose. “There we go.” “Thank you.” Jennie quietly handed Lisa a peeled shrimp. “For you.” Lisa blinked. “You peeled mine?” Jennie smiled. “Someone has to feed the one who’s feeding our baby.” Lisa looked genuinely touched. “Mommy naman…” Ella looked between them. Then picked up a tiny piece of fish Lisa had prepared. She held it toward Lisa with both little hands. “Dammy.” Lisa leaned closer. “For me?” Ella nodded. “Ah.” Lisa opened her mouth dramatically. Ella carefully fed her. Lisa chewed exaggeratedly. “Mmm.” “So delicious.” Ella smiled proudly. Then immediately turned toward Jennie. “Mommy.” Jennie leaned down. Ella held out another tiny bite. “For mommy.” Jennie smiled warmly. “Thank you, baby.” She accepted the bite, then kissed Ella’s cheek. “My sweet girl.” Nestled safely on Lisa’s lap, with Jennie beside them and their family chatting around the table, Ella let out one last sleepy yawn. Still recovering. But surrounded by warm food, gentle care, and two parents who made sure every bite was safe and every need was met. (comsec) #jenlisa #filoau
