I'm open to this being awesome or stupid... or both. Combat athletes and coaches, please weigh in on this! If you test it, I'd love to get feedback on if you think this might actually be useful. It's essentially High Guard Band Walking. Here's my big question with this one... with actual combat sports, a major goal is to actually NOT tighten up and brace constantly but to stay loose (to maintain better breathing and circulation). When doing this one, I actually tried to do that... as in maintain the high guard position against band tension while still keeping as relatively loose as I could. If you test it, try that and let me know how that feels. I did this one for intervals of a minute or so, but feel free to use whatever you like. To do it, you're looping a couple of thin bands around the arms of the treadmill, gripping the ends in your hands (letting the band run down the outside of the forearms) then trying to maintain that high guard position while walking on the treadmill. This really brings in not only the front delts and upper back nicely, I found it really targeted anti-flexion in the core as well because once you lock in the arms and upper back, the bands are then trying to fold you in half at the midsection. And you're doing it while walking, which creates dynamic loading in the core. I started off using some skinny bands from @vectorathlete (code FITPOWER20 will get you 20% off on their silicone bands, if you're interested). This felt just about right in terms of being able to keep the hands up but still giving good resistance against that. In the second part of the video, I bumped up the band size a bit and it was MUCH harder to keep the hands up (which I think was actually still beneficial for short intervals). --- Got a muscle group or exercise you want to build FAST? Give me 3 weeks... #treadmill #mma #boxing #conditioning #highguard
