I don't understand why people are against 30% pass rate or Maths literacy 😳. Pure maths is still offered in high schools and it's not like universities let people who passed matric with higher certificate study for degrees. Do they want us to go back to the days where 25 year olds were still wearing school uniform due to repeating grades numerous times after failing to get 50% pass mark? The purpose of 30% is to get slow learners out of the high schools for them to go pursue vocational studies at TVET colleges.

In my opinion, the way it the system is structured basic education doesn't coo related with higher education. a leaner doing tourism, consumer, maths lit, history etc will have a problem when it comes to university entry. 30% will get u no where, if they get admitted they will qualify for a course that will guarantee them unemployment.

We may be confusing academic performance with intelligence. A learner who gets 30% in a subject may be demonstrating weakness in that particular area, not a lack of intelligence or potential. The bigger question is whether our education system does enough to identify and develop each learner’s strengths, rather than measuring everyone primarily through the same academic subjects.

this is a horrible analysis because she's talking as if the majority of learners get 30%. a 30% pass doesn't even get you in varsity where the pass mark is different. the people that are going into industries are the people from varsity not high school 😒 not in 2026.
