I got a call this evening about a beaver that needed help at Eureka Park in Denton. Catching a beaver can be a situation,so I knew I needed to go help. Katelyn and I rushed over to Eureka Park, and when we arrived, some incredibly kind people that called us were there keeping their eyes on him and making sure he stayed safe. I assessed the situation, and it was pretty clear this wasn’t normal behavior for a healthy beaver. He was repeatedly swimming in circles. Circling can sometimes be associated with a neurological problem, or an injury, or loss of vision. I scooped him up with a net and got my hands on him. He didn’t thrash around. He didn’t try to bite me. He wasn’t aggressive with me at all. I believe animals know when you’re there to help them. I really do believe that. We sat there with him while we waited for City of Denton Animal Services to arrive. And by the way—the little boy who had been waiting with the beaver before we arrived decided to name him Todd the Beaver :) When Animal Services arrived, I carried Todd over and asked what the protocol would be from there. The answer I got, in the tone i got it in was not what I would hope to hear. Especially, saying that in front of a little boy that was helping to save it. I don’t catch animals because I want them killed. I catch them because I want to give them a chance. So tomorrow I will be calling City of Denton Animal Services and checking on Todd. Tonight, people stopped what they were doing because they cared about one little beaver that needed help. #ClearCreekAdventureRanch #RescueAnimals #InspireKindness #Beaver #Wildlife
