In 2025, August Egg Company recalled over 20 million eggs for the exact same reason — Salmonella — sickening 79 people and hospitalising 21 across seven states. That batch was also cage-free and sold under trusted brands at Walmart, Safeway, and Raley's. Two massive recalls in back-to-back years. Both cage-free. Both Class I. Both tens of millions of eggs. Both discovered after people were already hospitalised. The system didn't prevent the contamination. It didn't catch it before distribution.
