In life you’re going to face times where you’re ostracized or outcast for being different, and it’s very important that you don’t give in. It’s in our nature to seek the moral high ground and villainize others just for coming from different circumstances. It’s far more morally convenient to stir up emotions of righteousness than to take a step back and look at what went into making a person, like the ingredients of a completed recipe. Nobody wants to have to think through a messy gray area, where you rationalize even a “villain’s” thoughts or behaviors, because in a world of completely understood intention you don’t get to feel righteous all the time. The homeless man tripping and muttering to himself on the side of the street was someone’s son or dear friend once. The weird kid that sits alone at the lunch table plays with his nerdy cards because that’s all he has. Yet these people are only perceived for negative things that others will characterize them by without questioning that any further. If you were in their shoes, you’d be the exact same. Your flaws are somehow not representative of who you are, or it’s not your fault, or due to something you can’t control, yet a flaw you see in someone else is 100% who they are. And that’s something I’ll always hate about the world
