If I could give my younger self 7 rules about dealing with clients, these would be them. You might not see them again. Here’s what to do instead: 1. Don’t assume every interested person will return. A client can sound excited today and disappear tomorrow. Not because they hate your business. Sometimes they get busy, change their mind, find another option, or simply forget. So when someone shows genuine interest, don’t treat the conversation casually. Give them the information they need to make a clear decision. 2. Don’t make clients repeat themselves. If they already explained what they need, pay attention. Making someone explain the same thing three times tells them you are not really listening. Take notes. Confirm your understanding. Then move forward. 3. Don’t be too desperate to close the conversation. You don’t need to keep saying, “Are you ready?” That can make the client feel like they are being pushed. Instead, give them a clear next step. For example: “Once you’re ready, I’ll send the payment details and we can begin.” Now they know what happens next without feeling pressured. 4. Don’t take “I’ll get back to you” personally. Your first reaction may be, “They don’t want to work with me.” Don’t jump there. The client may still be comparing options, checking their finances, speaking with someone else, or simply thinking. Give them room without disappearing completely. 5. Don’t promise perfection. Promise a clear process. Instead of saying, “You will absolutely love it,” explain what you will do, when they will receive it, and how changes will be handled. Confidence becomes more believable when there is something concrete behind it. 6. Don’t argue when a client disagrees with you. You may know your industry better than the client. But that doesn’t mean every disagreement needs to become a battle. First understand what they are worried about. Then explain your recommendation. People listen better when they feel understood before they are corrected. 7. Don’t wait until the end to build trust. Trust is built during the entire experience. From your first reply. To how you explain things. To how you handle delays. To how you communicate after payment. A client is quietly asking one question throughout the process: “Can I trust this person to handle this properly?” Give them evidence. I learned this the hard way. There was a time I focused so much on getting the client to agree that I forgot something more important: making the client feel safe about the decision. That changed how I communicate. I stopped thinking only about getting the project. I started thinking about what the client needed to feel confident moving forward. That small change can completely change how people experience your business. If you want to understand clients beyond just what they say, The Client Code breaks down how to communicate better, understand client psychology, handle objections, build trust, and stop losing opportunities because of poor communication. Check the link in my bio. #ClientCommunication #BusinessTips #ClientPsychology #BusinessGrowth #TheClientCode
