She now goes to the November election holding a seat she was handed rather than one she won. This is Trompenaars' ascription against achievement, and the ascription side won. Achievement means your position comes from what you have done. Ascription means it comes from who you are, your family, your connections, your patron. Americans describe their country as the most achievement-based society on earth. This seat went by surname and by one man's approval, and 175,000 Republican voters were not enough to stop it.
