DUKE :
No matter how true and beautiful a love is, knowing that being together would only bring pain to both of them, Zhu Bajie chooses to let go. Afraid that even in the next life, that person might choose him again, he walks away, leaving her behind with a heart full of love, without even turning back to look.
We can’t know whose heart is more burdened, the one who longs and the one who is longed for, but Cheon Bongwonsu (Zhu Bajie) will have to carry the pain of those he loves on his back for the next 999 lives. Whether love bears fruit or is let go, what matters is how deeply the two loved each other. Chapter 4 poses the question, "Do we, like Zhu Bajie, have the courage to let go so that we can love?"
Tom and Summer (500 Days of Summer)
Tom still cannot understand how someone who once said, "I don’t want to be anybody’s girlfriend," has now become somebody’s wife. Through the man she is with now, the uncertainties she had about her relationship with Tom have finally been resolved, and she comes to understand the meaning of "love" that Tom spoke of. Everything Tom said about love and fate was true, but the one thing he was wrong about was believing that Summer’s destiny was Tom himself.
True love is
perhaps the kind of love where you are protected and know nothing of hurt or loss—that may be the form everyone desires. But true love does not end with a brief, happy moment.
It is built from the countless small moments that pile up: bickering in the car, being a source of strength for each other, growing stronger for one another, and, when one is weak, growing together and caring for each other. Just as life is not only a brief moment of happiness, the journey called "forever" is much longer than we imagine.
