Apologetics is about contextualizing, in other words. The scientific method is the wrong tool for theology because it is designed to measure physical, controllable variables, whereas theology deals with a transcendent, personal reality that cannot be forced into a lab experiment. Expecting empirical testing to prove or disprove the divine is a category mistake, like using a ruler 📏 to measure the beauty of a song.🕊

A common argument against Christianity is "Why doesn't God reveal himself?" And people respond "Because then faith wouldn't be necessary." Okay, sure, let's say I accpt that argument, fine. My next question is "Why did God create a system in which he needed my 10% to get his word out?"

The way that religious apologists talk reminds me of the way that Kipling told fantastic, clearly false stories about the origin of animal characteristics to entertain children at bedtime. Apologetics is like soothing entertainment that puts the religious mind to sleep rather than awakening it to deal with the world.

maybe I don't understand what's at issue here, because it could very well be possible that what one believes to be true does turn out to actually be true after investigating it. am I missing something here?

not even just apologetics, entire Christian denominations have been built on a beliefs first then finding support via proof texting scripture ripped out of its original context

YES! I've made this point for years. "Defend my pre-assumed belief at all costs" (aka religious apologetics) is a dishonest endeavor. In fact, back in 2010, Bill Craig even tacitly admitted this in a video, where he said that even if all of his arguments for Christianity were shown wrong he would still believe it because, he claims, he 'knows' he had a personal experience with the Holy Spirit (I.e. "I can't be wrong!"). SMH.
