🚨 How early is TOO early for puberty? For girls, signs of true puberty before age 8 should be evaluated. For boys, it’s before age 9. Why does it matter? Early puberty can sometimes signal an underlying hormonal or neurologic issue, and it can also affect: 📏 Adult height — bones may mature too quickly, shortening the time a child has left to grow. 🧠 Emotional & social development — a young child may be dealing with physical changes they aren’t developmentally ready for. And an important distinction: body odor, acne or pubic/underarm hair alone doesn’t necessarily mean true puberty has started. Breast development in girls and testicular enlargement in boys are more specific signs of central puberty.
