So, his motivation is essentially “I failed her but I’ll never fail anyone again when I’m a doctor.” But to keep that feeling of safety, he had to gradually go from volunteering and helping anyone to cherry picking his patients. Becoming materialistic once the money rolled in, and growing emotionally distant to patients to not form attachments. He began to chase fame, money and glory because it made him feel safe. He told himself he was saving lives but really he was trying to save himself from feeling that sense of dread ever again. That’s what separated him from Christine; she was an ER doctor. She doesn’t get to cherry pick patients, she gets whoever, whatever, whenever. (Although I really wish they’d touch on his other supporting characters instead of everyday Christine😵‍💫) Strange’s fatal flaw was that he never handled a patient he knew he couldnt save because “failing” would be too devastating for HIM.
