Works so fucking well it’s kinda crazy. Do->Doe is obvious, but works great because unlike the others acting as a characterization, it reduces Noelle to simply being “Doe”, simply being “The girl”, simply being “A Noelle”, a perfect showing of her character in the weird route. Rey works pretty clearly as Susie being a ray of light in the story, always being a source of hope. Light also being literal in terms of being a lightener, one seemingly always in the dark world. Mi works clearly great to call to Kris’s sense of self and relation to the soul, but also “the name I call myself” in reference to us naming the vessel at the beginning and the rejection of that, with names being very important in Kris’s meta context. FA is weaker than the others, but does kinda connect to the way that, although many focus on it with Susie, Berdly clearly used the dark world(and possibly by extension video games) as escapism to be the hero he views himself as, shown well in the animatic as him looking away almost in shame. Fa->Fall is also a connection as a bird and with his weird route fate(when you remember that in UTDR “falling” can also mean a coma/state of death). The “needle pulling thread” for so can represent coming undone, as many theorize from what we know that Dess likely was mentally coming undone. Beyond this though, thread also is commonly used to represent a mystery and the pieces of it, like a board with thread connecting photos, photos being shown in the animatic to block her face. So a needle pulling thread could represent the pieces of her story coming together, or the trail leading to her coming undone. As others mentioned, Lo following So is rather literally with Asriel literally following after Dess, though the idea that he actually went looking for her and isn’t at college also could work on the double meaning of “following after”. Ti->tea is pretty clear, as is its connection with Ralsei, but something interesting to note is how “Ti” also means you in some languages, contrasting with “Mi” in Kris, showing the duality of their situations as not being prisoners of their own roles, Kris being the “me” of anothwr(us the player), and Ralsei being the “you”(cont
