@ellistonpediatrics: Why is this baby trying to kiss someone they just met? 🥹 Babies don’t reserve connection only for their parents. As they grow, they can show affection toward other trusted adults who make them feel safe — sometimes with hugs, smiles, or even kisses. And when that affection gets a “no”? The tears can be very real. They’re still learning boundaries, reading our reactions, and figuring out how to regulate some very big feelings in a very little body. 🤍 . . . . #BabyDevelopment #EmotionalDevelopment #Pediatrician #ParentingTips Best NYC pediatrician Tribeca pediatrician UWS pediatrician UES pediatrician Brooklyn pediatrician Flatiron pediatrician

And I’m pretty sure this is where the men come from who say “the kid led me on” it’s because KIDS DONT UNDERSTAND SH*T so it’s YOUR RESPONSIBILITY as. An ADULT to set the BOUNDARIES. 👍

I worked with autistic kiddos and they would frequently try to give a kiss. I would tell them, "Oh, kisses are for mommy's and daddy's. Teacher can give a side hug or a high five. " That usually worked.

i was out for a meal. a toddler kept coming to my table. they showed me their shoes, bows un hair and dress. they kept coming back to stare & laugh. of course I interacted. & said shoes and bow was pretty. I honestly didnt mind child coming over. as child was leaving they ran over to say bye. I waved but mum said "give the lady a hug and kiss"😳. i said no. As didnt feel comfortable hugging & kissing a child i only seen for 50 minutes. Mum kept saying "but she likes hugging and giving kisses". i still refused.

I don't mind if my friends' kids give me kisses, but I'll always turn so they're kissing my cheek. When they're old enough I'll ask if they'd like a hug, a high five or a wave to say goodbye, and go with whichever they choose.

small children will cry at being told "no they cant kiss so and so" because they cant yet comprehend that kisses can be bad. But it is our job as adults to teach them, guide them and keep them safe

I taught my babies blow kisses to friends and extended family. Kisses with siblings mummy daddy and grandparents. Blow kisses to friends. But sometimes they didn’t want to and wanted a real kiss. And they’d be told no thank you can we hug instead? By many people. My autistic child wants kisses on his face to soothe him. So it’s tricky in that respect because his is for soothing reasons. But we had to quickly learn different things. Let feel your hair is his favourite soothing. so I leave his long enough he can soothe himself with his hair.

I babysat kids and sometimes they would want to kiss me too and I had to reassure them that im a safe adult and kisses are only for mommy and daddy. I would wish my caregiver did the same for my future babies.

I saw this ages ago and it's a perfect example of teaching the child boundaries and letting them know it's ok to make a mistake but you can't do that and then go on to a high five.
