@refsneedlovetoo: This certainly feels wrong, but it is correct to per the Laws of the Game. Harry Maguire wasn’t the person who scored and this wasn’t a Handball Offense. I think the decision is correct to allow the goal. What do you think? @@Manchester United##Soccer##referee##footballtiktok

Of course it is a handball. If you know football you know this.

It’s something that will likely be rewritten to account for this situation

Totally natural position for his arms given it’s going to smack him in the face.

Finally someone explains it to people that don’t understand football! Great explanation for why the goal stood!

What's amazing is that this type of incident has happened, several times, also against United with actual handballs, and they didn't get 5% of the attention as this one ...I wonder why😂 It's a valid goal by current rules, like them or not 👍

You just answered it, and contradicted yourself. Whether that was own goal or not, the player who just touched the ball with hand caused it. Let’s wait and see if this decision could be consistent; through out the season.

Rubbish it was an obvious handball, and I even support United. Too many refs over analyzing the nuances of the law failing to see what is right in front of them and plain to see 💀

I disagree. Own goals aren't mentioned anywhere in the laws. in fact Law 12 is silent on the impact of deflections. The goal still comes directly from his handling which is what ifab sought to address if you read through the change notes when this came in. however, the PL have explicitly said in their guidelines that an own goal negates the handling.so the refs got the decision right based on what this competition said, but I think that guidance opposes the intent of the law.

Should be a free kick to the defensive team, arm was not in a natural position.

There's palm motion towards the ball. I differ on it being "accidental", it should have been ruled out. Interested to hear the verdict of the KMI review panel. I think they'll publish their report next week or so?

IMO the current language in the rules was focused on defenders - avoiding giving penalties every time the ball touches a hand. On the attacking side the rule is weak - only direct goals are disallowed. Getting advantage from a handball in the buildup to a goal is allowed but does not feel right. I would revise the rule.

What’s done is done, but I personally think the hand ball contributes to the goal so it should have been disallowed. That wasn’t a cross that was a shot. Either way bad refereeing but it doesn’t change the result, Man U were better on the day.

Verbiage follow up regarding the defender…. deflection? Or poor attempt to play the ball into own goal? I believe the two differ and should be taken into consideration whether or not the goal stands - immediately after an accidental handball.

100% accidental but I do feel the current rules need to change. we either allow accidental handballs or rule them all as fouls. it shouldn't matter what the next contact is, a foul should be a foul

Good call, not a handball! It may seem like a handball to people who never played or don’t have an understanding of the game but this was the right call. Easy call
