@tavelarocque: Day 83 of the @HigherUpWellness speak your mind challenge. nostalgia literally means the pain of wanting to go home. but you're not homesick for a place. nostalgia comes from two greek words. nostos, the return home. algos, pain. it was invented as a medical term for soldiers so homesick they were physically ill. but here's what makes it haunting. the home you feel nostalgic for often doesn't exist anymore, and sometimes it never did. you're not homesick for a place. you're homesick for a version of yourself, a time when things felt whole, when you were held, when the world was smaller and safer. some people spend their whole lives aching to get back there. but maybe that ache isn't pointing backwards at all. maybe it's homesickness for something you haven't reached yet. that longing for home isn't broken. maybe it's a compass. you were never homesick for the past, but for a home you haven't found yet. #nostalgia #philosophy #etymology #mindset #edit
